The Ascendas hotel group faced an aging hydrant system in the ever popular Mercure Hotel, situated in the prime position on King George Square. While occupancy was strong and growing owing to its excellent location, the hydrant system had not been modified since the 1970s and needed to be upgraded to ensure continued guest safety.

Ascendas engaged Donnan to provide a design and construct solution with minimal impact on Hotel operations and no impact to guests. This was compli-cated by the fact the original Hydrant Storage Tank was located in the Roof! Donnan’s solution utilises the existing stairwells and back-of-house areas and underused storerooms in the basement to locate the new storage tanks.Working with congested services corridors and low head height, Donnan ensured that the Hotel experienced no impacts and no loss of system integrity during the construction process.
